Reading Morning

In Key Stage One at St. Wilfrid’s we begin the day with reading morning. Reading is a life skill which we want to develop in every child. We therefore open our doors at 8.50 to allow children to start their education at 9.00, when reading morning begins.

Reading from Reception to Y2 is carried out in school and supported by various schemes such as:-Oxford Reading Tree, PM books, Floppy’s Phonics and other readers.  We have reading morning every morning from 9.00-9.15 and volunteers come into classes to read with the children and support with reading tasks and games. During this time the class teacher and teaching assistant also hear groups or individuals read.

Reading morning volunteers are trained and DBS checked. They share books with children, hearing them read and promoting quality ‘book talk’.

Please contact Mrs. Dooner if you are interested in becoming a volunteer in school contact.
